The Endeca Latitude system allows you, the user to find all of your data, both structured and unstructured.  What this means is that you may have data records regarding the sales of your products.  This is structured data.  You will also have emails about the same products.  This is unstructured. 

Endeca's latitude seamlessly combines any number of data sources, no matter where they come from.  Imagine being able to trace what products sold well last week, then check what was being said on social networking sites about those best selling products.

With standard DW, the warehousing experts will toil away for weeks taking data from various parts of the corporate world and massaging them into cubes.  Cubes are well named in that they are square objects.  The data is massaged and trimmed so that the data fits neatly into a cube like structure. 

You know that your data is not neat.  It is messy.  There are bits missing.  The old data does not have quite the same amount of detail as the new data.  With standard DW these messy bits are smoothed out in the setup phase.  That means that assumptions are made about the data to make it fit.  With Endeca's Latitude, the data is absorbed "As is".  The old data is just as relevant as the new data.  There is no need to make an assumption.

These cubes can have about six dimensions.  That means that you may be able to report on

• colour

If these are the dimensions that you chose weeks ago.  The first time that you get a report from the system, you are happy with it and tell the IT department "Well done".  Then you think of another dimension to report on, say "supplier".  You want to know if the products from Supplier A are going as well as from Supplier B.  You go back to the IT department and ask them. 

You are told that it will take 3 weeks to generate!  You have to wait for all the other reports and tasks that have been requested and scheduled.

Endeca's Latitude works on practically a limitless number of dimensions.  It can be thousands.  You can generate your new report straight away.  In fact you will want to as new thoughts come to you about what is significant about these products.
