Over the years, Mintec has been approached many times to take over the maintenance of an application. The current developer is no longer able to meet the client needs. The reasons vary from:
– Retirement
– Poor performance
– Inability to complete tasks
The first thing that Mintec will ask is whether the client has access to the source code of the application.
Several times it has become clear that the client does not know what role source code has within system application development. The client may say that they have complete access to the system but that relates to running the system. When we have had a closer look, we have at times, not been able to access the source code.
To explain the importance, developers will only work on the source code. That code is often compiled to make an executable application. The lack of source code can mean that we are either unable to make changes or changes become very difficult.
